Direct referral from GPs and healthcare professionals will still be accepted by the physiotherapy service at Royal Orthopaedic Hospital. Please include as much detail as possible relating to the reason for referral, other medical conditions, previous letters/diagnostic tests and previous treatment. A referral that includes the above information will enable clinicians to triage the referral to the right clinician in the appropriate time frame.

Paediatric Physiotherapy Referrals - link

Inclusion Criteria

• Be aged 16 or over
• Have a musculoskeletal (MSK) pain/condition

Exclusion Criteria

We are unable to accept patients for physiotherapy for management of the following conditions:

• Patients requiring further investigations for diagnosis of MSK pathology – please refer to triage services
• Presence of red flags
• Presentations requiring emergency care i.e. fractures, acute tendon ruptures, cauda equina, myelopathy, infection, DVT – please use emergency care pathways
• Pain management services
• Home visits
• Respiratory (breathing) conditions i.e. cystic fibrosis, asthma
• Rheumatological conditions
• Neurological conditions i.e. stroke, MS, head injury
• Non Musculoskeletal pain
• Long COVID
• Pelvic health conditions i.e. incontinence
• Suspected / known cancer
