Modern Slavery Statement
Modern Slavery and Human Trafficking Statement
This statement is made in accordance with section 54(1) of the Modern Slavery Act 2015 and outlines the steps taken by The Royal Orthopaedic Hospital NHS Foundation Trust to prevent modern slavery and human trafficking within our organisation and supply chains.
Our commitment
The Royal Orthopaedic Hospital NHS Foundation Trust is fully committed to ensuring that there is no modern slavery or human trafficking within any part of our business or our supply chains. As a healthcare provider, we are dedicated to promoting human rights and protecting vulnerable people, both within the communities we serve and throughout our procurement processes. We take a zero-tolerance approach to modern slavery and expect all those connected with our Trust, including suppliers and partners, to share this commitment.
Organisational structure
The Royal Orthopaedic Hospital NHS Foundation Trust provides a range of specialist orthopaedic services to the NHS. As an organisation, we procure a wide range of goods and services. We understand the risks of modern slavery in supply chains and work diligently to mitigate these risks through the implementation of robust policies and procedures.
Monitoring, assurance, and policies:
- Procurement process: We have exclusionary grounds to address the risk when procuring new contracts
- NHS Supply chain review: A review was completed with NHSE, our biggest supplier of consumables, to assess the risk across 1300 suppliers and 600,000 products with an action plan for improvement in progress.
- Contracts: All new contracts have standard NHS terms and conditions include a section on modern slavery
We have several policies in place that contribute to our commitment to preventing modern slavery and human trafficking. These include:
- Trust Safeguarding Policy: Our safeguarding policy outlines the steps the Trust takes to protect vulnerable adults and children from harm, including exploitation and trafficking. This policy is regularly reviewed to ensure compliance with current legislation and best practice.
- Modern Slavery Policy: This policy outlines our approach to identifying and managing risks associated with modern slavery. It applies to all staff, volunteers, and third parties involved with the Trust.
Training
We provide training to staff to ensure they are aware of the risks of modern slavery and human trafficking. This training includes how to identify potential victims and what steps to take if concerns arise.
Looking Forward
Over the next year, we will continue to strengthen our approach to combatting modern slavery by:
- Reviewing and updating our policies to reflect any changes in legislation.
- Enhancing our supplier monitoring processes to ensure ongoing compliance with our anti-slavery commitments.
- Providing additional training for staff, particularly those in high-risk areas, to further raise awareness of modern slavery risks.
This statement is approved by the Board of Directors and will be reviewed annually.
