The Royal Orthopaedic Hospital is full of incredible people, but who do you think deserves an award? This is your opportunity to nominate them...

The Blue Heart Awards celebrate the 'heart of healthcare' and the incredible things that the Royal Orthopaedic Hospital team do everyday. It's an opportunity to recognise, celebrate and nominate an NHS hero. There are 14 categories to choose from. It's quick and simple to nominate.

Nurse of the Year Award

Awarded to a member of the Nursing profession who has demonstrated an outstanding contribution to patient care and the wider Trust.

The judging panel will seek evidence of the following criteria:

  • Care and compassion
  • Personal development
  • Internal and external collaboration
  • Continuous improvement
  • Living the Trust values
  • A commitment to inclusion
Doctor / Clinician / Medic of the Year Award

Awarded to a Doctor, Clinician or Medic who has demonstrated outstanding clinical practice and patient care.

The judging panel will seek evidence of the following criteria, and considering impact during the pandemic period:

  • Advancing clinical practice
  • Exemplary standards of patient care
  • Involvement in research and innovation
  • Continuous improvement
  • Living the Trust values
  • A commitment to inclusion
Support Service Team Member of the Year Award (Estates & Facilities)

Awarded to an employee in supporting services such as Estates, Facilities, Housekeeping, Portering, Catering (and similar roles) who has demonstrated an outstanding contribution to patient experience and the wider Trust.

The judging panel will seek evidence of the following criteria, and considering impact during the pandemic period:

  • Efficiency, effectiveness and technical expertise
  • Improving patient experience
  • Personal development
  • Continuous improvement
  • Living the Trust values
  • A commitment to inclusion
Allied Health Professional / Pharmacist / Healthcare Scientist of the Year Award

Awarded to an Operating Department Practitioner, Physiotherapist, Occupational Therapist, Extended Scope Practitioner, Pharmacist, Histopathologist, Radiographer, Healthcare Scientist and any other allied health professional who has demonstrated an outstanding contribution to quality, safety, optimisation and patient experience.

The judging panel will seek evidence of the following criteria, and considering impact during the pandemic period:

  • Patient experience and safety
  • Optimising practice
  • Personal development
  • Continuous improvement
  • Living the Trust values
  • A commitment to inclusion
Secretarial/ Administrative Team Member of the Year Award

Awarded to a secretary or administrator who has demonstrated an outstanding contribution to patient care and the wider Trust.

The judging panel will seek evidence of the following criteria, and considering impact during the pandemic period:

  • Efficiency and effectiveness
  • Improving patient experience
  • Personal development
  • Continuous improvement
  • Living the Trust values

Clinical Support Team Member of the Year Award

Awarded to a Healthcare Assistant, Health Care and Theatre Practitioners, Theatre Assistant, Imaging Assistant, Pharmacy Technician, Therapy Assistant and staff in similar roles who has demonstrated an outstanding contribution to patient care and the wider Trust.

The judging panel will seek evidence of the following criteria, and considering impact during the pandemic period:

  • Improving patient experience
  • Personal development
  • Continuous improvement

Corporate Services Team Member of the Year Award

Awarded to a corporate services employee (IT, Finance, Governance, Health Informatics, Research, HR, Education and Training, Patient Experience and roles in similar functions), who has demonstrated an outstanding contribution to Trust corporate services.

The judging panel will seek evidence of the following criteria, and considering impact during the pandemic period:

  • Improving patient and staff experience
  • Effective management and cost saving
  • Personal development
  • Continuous improvement
  • Living the Trust values
  • A commitment to inclusion
Clinical Team of the Year Award

Awarded to a clinical team who provide an outstanding service to patients and demonstrate a commitment to continuous improvement.

The judging panel will seek evidence of the following criteria:

  • Exceptional teamwork and multi-disciplinary collaboration
  • Patient-centred approaches
  • Clinical excellence
  • Continuous improvement
  • Living the Trust values
  • A commitment to inclusion
Non-Clinical Team of the Year

Awarded to a non-clinical team who provide an outstanding service to patients and/or the Trust and demonstrate a commitment to continuous improvement.

The judging panel will seek evidence of the following criteria:

  • Teamwork

  • Excellence in efficiency and effectiveness
  • Continuous improvement

Innovation and Continuous Improvement Award

Awarded to a team or individual involved in research or the design and delivery an innovation in their area of work. An innovation could be a new treatment or a modification to an existing process or pathway.

The judging panel will seek evidence of the following criteria, and considering impact during the pandemic period:

  • Collaborative and patient-centred approaches
  • Innovative practice
  • Research and development
  • Spreading learning

Dedication to Learning Award

Awarded to an apprentice, learner or student who has demonstrated a commitment to personal development and the values of the Trust.

The judging panel will seek evidence of the following criteria, and considering impact during the pandemic period:

  • Personal development
  • Continuous improvement
  • Living the Trust values
  • A commitment to inclusion
Outstanding Contribution to Patient Experience Award

Awarded to a team or individual who has made an outstanding contribution to patients experience. The judging panel will seek evidence of the following criteria:

  • Nominations and feedback submitted by patients
  • Care and compassion
  • Continuous Improvement
  • Living the Trust values in an inclusive way
Volunteer of the Year Award

Awarded to a volunteer or voluntary team who have improved the Trust environment or experience and supported ROH to deliver patient services.

The judging panel will seek evidence of the following criteria, and considering impact during the pandemic period:

  • Contribution and commitment to the NHS and Royal Orthopaedic Hospital
  • Contribution and commitment to improving patient experience
  • Living the Trust values
  • A commitment to inclusion
Fundraiser of the year Award

Awarded to an individual or a team that has gone above and beyond to support the trust by fundraising or implementing a charity lead project. The Charitable Funds Committee will seek evidence of the impact the fundraising or project has or will have on patients within the trust.

The winner will be selected by the Charitable Fund Committee.

Judging

The Blue Heart Awards are judged by an inclusive panel of people from across the Trust. It's really important that voices from different teams and experiences are represented. Awards night

Those who make the shortlist and their nominator, will be invited to an exclusive event at Birmingham's incredible Botanical Gardens. This is the premier event in the Trust calendar and this event will be very special - so get nominating!
