Royal Orthopaedic Hospital Partial Booking Process - Young Adult Hips

The Royal Orthopaedic Hospital is continuously looking to improve its processes and efficiency. One of these projects involves changing our outpatient appointment system. After detailed planning, a new appointment process called Partial Booking, which has already been piloted in other specialities, is now live for our Young Adult Hips (YAH) patients.

The Partial Booking process gives the patient an estimated appointment date while simultaneously placing the patient on a waiting list. The patient is then sent a letter with a confirmed appointment date. This ensures that patients receive appointments in order of waiting time, medical priority and will avoid the patients’ appointment being rescheduled.

If you have any questions about the Partial Booking process, please telephone our Appointments team on 0121 685 4186 between 8:00 and 18:00, Monday to Friday.

FAQ

How will this affect me?
Once the hospital receives your referral, a letter will be sent to you acknowledging this and explaining the next steps. Your details will be placed on a waiting list for the next available appointment slot.
What will happen after I have received the acknowledgement letter?
Once we have a confirmed appointment time we will send out an appointment letter giving you 6 weeks’ notice of the appointment date. A text will be sent to you once your appointment has been made and reminder text messages will be sent to you 7 and 3 days before your appointment date. This will also contain an internet link to create your own account on our online appointments system (in association with DrDoctor) and you can reply to the text in order to cancel or reschedule your appointment. Alternatively you can contact the Appointments team by telephone.
What happens if the date offered for my appointment is not suitable for me?
You will have to inform the Appointment team either via text (as mentioned above) or by telephone. If the date is not suitable, you will be placed back onto the waiting list and another appointment will be issued to you in due course. Once you have had your initial appointment made, any subsequent appointments if you need to reschedule should be booked with minimal delay. Please note it is the policy of the Trust that it will only offer two appointment dates. If neither of these dates are convenient then you may need to be referred back to your GP.
Do you have the correct contact details for me?
This is an ideal time to also check with us if we have your correct mobile/contact details. You can get in touch with the Appointments team on 0121 685 4186 or email This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. to update your details.
