The Trust is working with building partner ModuleCo, a company who produce state of the art modular buildings, which can be lifted by crane and placed on-site.
This development is good news for those waiting for joint replacement surgery. The Royal Orthopaedic Hospital, who currently perform around 3,000 hip and knee replacements every year, will soon be treating more patients helping to reduce waiting times in Birmingham and Solihull.
Jo Williams, Chief Executive at the hospital said,
“We are excited to be adding these facilities to our hospital. They will allow us to offer more of our world-leading orthopaedic care to local people and provide a state-of-the-art working environment for our staff. This is a fantastic development for our hospital and for patients in Birmingham and Solihull.”
It is good news for the local economy too, as the new facilities are set to create approximately 130 extra jobs at the hospital, which is the largest employer in Northfield.
The Royal Orthopaedic Hospital is one of the biggest specialist orthopaedic units in Europe and rank among the best in the NHS for patient experience with a 96% recommendation rating from patients.
