Can you ju-believe it! Birmingham’s Royal Orthopaedic Hospital celebrates a Platinum Jubilee in style

Staff and their guests have celebrated the Queen's Platinum Jubilee in style, with a big lunch, miles of bunting, and a ceremonial beacon lighting to kick off the bank holiday weekend.

The Royal Orthopaedic Hospital in Northfield, Birmingham was one of a small number of NHS trusts participating in the celebratory beacon ceremony.

Celebrations across the Commonwealth

Together with communities up across the UK and Commonwealth, the Royal Orthopaedic Hospital took the chance to celebrate the Platinum Jubilee with colleagues, as the hospital said thank you to staff for their hard work over the pandemic.

Jo Williams, Chief Executive at The Royal Orthopaedic Hospital, said: “We were thrilled to be able to hold this once in a lifetime event and to pay tribute to the Queen as part of the official Platinum Jubilee weekend of celebrations.

“The ROH has a long heritage stretching back over 200 years. We have been lucky enough to welcome royal visitors from King George in 1927 to more recently the Princess Royal, who helped plant our Jubilee orchard as part of the Queen’s Green Canopy initiative – which I’m happy to report patients and colleagues are now enjoying! This is a fantastic slice of history to be involved in”.

On Thursday evening, (02.06.2022) The Royal Orthopaedic Hospital hosted a string quartet for guests to enjoy alongside the beacon lighting ceremony, complete with town crier, bugler and piper to follow the official ceremony.

A ‘Big Lunch’ event for hospital colleagues at the start of the week paid homage to the Trusts’ royal roots with an outdoor party, street food vendors and Rock Choir.
