The Royal Orthopaedic Hospital named as a finalist in the Menopause Friendly Employer Awards

The Royal Orthopaedic Hospital has been named as a finalist in the industry-recognised Menopause Friendly Employer Awards - powered by HSBC UK, first direct and M&S Bank.

The Royal Orthopaedic Hospital (ROH) has been shortlisted in the Best Support Group category. This award recognises organisations that have created the best community group, ensuring a safe and inclusive environment for conversations around menopause in the workplace.

Jo Williams, Chief Executive at the Royal Orthopaedic Hospital, said: “At the ROH our workforce is made up of around 72% women and we want to remove any stigma that may exist around the menopause to support colleagues who are working through it.

“We are very proud of the work we have achieved around raising awareness within our trust, and being named as a finalist is great recognition for all of the hard work that has gone into this! We’re really excited to keep the conversation moving forwards.”

Organised by Menopause Friendly and supported by the CIPD, the inaugural Menopause Friendly Employer Awards attracted over 85 entries across 10 categories. Winners will be announced at the Awards ceremony on Thursday September 22, 2022, at the Leonardo Royal Hotel, St Paul’s. The event will be hosted by broadcaster Louise Minchin where 180 guests will attend in person as 100s more join via live link from across the country.

“The standard of work and level of activity demonstrated by entrants to the first-ever Menopause Friendly Employer Awards has been really high, says Deborah Garlick, CEO of Henpicked: Menopause in The Workplace. “The Best Support Group category was one of the largest and most hotly contested. The Royal Orthopaedic Hospital did extremely well to stand out against the wide range of entries and I’m delighted to see a healthcare provider take its place alongside the diverse shortlisted entrants from banking to retail and engineering to sports.

“It was an absolute pleasure to join the independent judging panel as they reviewed each application and to see the passion, dedication and commitment of these inspirational organisations and people to change the lived experience of menopause in their workplace. Not long ago, menopause was so clearly a taboo in the workplace: now we’re preparing to host this prestigious Awards event to celebrate the achievements and progress being made in this area: it’s wonderful!”
