Mike Dawes

Mike qualified from Coventry University in 2015 and completed his early rotations at University Hospitals Birmingham before progressing to a specialist musculoskeletal role at the Royal Orthopaedic Hospital in 2018 Current page. He moved into a Trainee Advanced Practice Physiotherapist role in 2023 and has since been promoted to Advanced Practice Physiotherapist.

He holds postgraduate qualifications in peripheral injection therapy and has completed MSc‑level study in advanced musculoskeletal practice, including specialist modules in pain physiology, pharmacology and lower‑quadrant advanced assessment . This academic development underpins his evidence‑based approach to managing complex MSK presentations.

Mike is research active, contributing to the OPTIMISE trial and wider MSK service development initiatives at ROH. He has recently stepped away from private practice and professional sports work to begin a new chapter in research, undertaking a PhD focused on advancing musculoskeletal rehabilitation and clinical practice.

Clinically, Mike now specialises in peripheral joint presentations, working across hip triage, knee, shoulder and sports injury pathways. His role involves advanced assessment, autonomous decision‑making and close collaboration with multidisciplinary teams.

Outside of work, Mike is an amateur triathlete and was selected to represent Great Britain at the 2024 European Championships
