Dr Ricky Shamji is a Consultant in Sport and Exercise Medicine at the Centre for Musculoskeletal Medicine, Royal Orthopaedic Hospital. He is also the Head of Sport Medicine and Science at Aston Villa FC.
He graduated from the University of Birmingham Medical School in 2004. He completed his higher specialist training in Sport and exercise Medicine in 2014.
Dr Shamji first developed a special interest in Football Medicine as the doctor for Walsall FC in 2008 before moving to Aston Villa in 2015. He has experience in multi sport medicine as a Physician for the English Institute of Sport and Team GB Para Archery Team.
He created and developed ‘Prescription for Exercise’, an initiative and tool designed to empower clinicians and patients to discuss physical activity as a treatment for long term conditions.
