Mr Spilsbury studied at the Middlesex Hospital in London and qualified in 1987.
He undertook specialist training at the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital and in South Wales. He obtained his Spinal Fellowship between Cardiff and The Royal Orthopaedic Hospital, followed a European Travelling Deformity Fellowship confirmed special interest in spinal deformity.
Mr Spilsbury concentrates on adult and paediatric spinal deformity, as well as covering spinal emergencies including trauma, infection and spinal tumours.
He was then appointed in 1998 as Consultant Spinal Surgeon at the Hope Hospital and Manchester Children̥s Hospital. Mr Spilsbury transferred back to the Midlands in 2002, to begin working at The Royal Orthopaedic Hospital and Birmingham Children̥s Hospital.
He holds the title Honorary Senior Lecturer at the University of Birmingham. He is a member of the British Scoliosis Society and regularly attend the Scoliosis Research Society meetings as well as other international deformity meetings.
