Safeguarding guide for adults

Safeguarding guide for adults

Some adult patients may be at increased risk of harm, both in the community and in the hospital, because their health condition, or disability, makes them more dependent on others. They may need extra support to safeguard them from the risk of abuse or neglect.

If you are a vulnerable adult with care and support needs, ask yourself the following questions:

•    Are you experiencing or at risk of abuse or neglect?
•    Are you unable to protect yourself from harm?
•    Do you or someone you know want support?
•    Are you caring for someone and feel you need help?

If so, then please tell someone.

If you have any concerns about the safety and welfare of a vulnerable adult and want to report adult abuse, please contact Adults Social Care Contact staff on 0121 303 1234 (Monday-Friday 9-5pm) or out of hours on 0121 464 9001
Birmingham CC - Safeguarding Concern
Adult Social Care Contact Centre staff will look at referrals made online from Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm.
If you believe your concern is an emergency, or if someone is in immediate danger, you should phone 999 for the Emergency Services.

Domestic Abuse

Domestic abuse is a pattern of behaviour on the part of the abuser designed to control his partner. It can happen at any point in a relationship, including after you have split up.
Domestic abuse can happen to anyone, regardless of age, background, gender, religion, sexuality or ethnicity. However, statistics show most domestic abuse is carried out by men and experienced by women.
Domestic abuse is never the fault of the person who is experiencing it.
Domestic abuse is a crime.
If you are experiencing or know someone experiencing domestic abuse, please contact:
National 24-hour domestic abuse helpline 0808 2000247 or if you are in an emergency situation please call  999
