Nikki Brockie
Nikki has over 23 years’ worth of experience in nursing, clinical and operational leadership and management. She has held senior positions across the UK as a Matron in both Critical Care and Medicine, as a Service Lead in Radiology at Heartlands Hospital, as a General Manager in Cardiac & Respiratory Services in Gloucester and latterly as a Health Education England (HEE) funded project manager in the biggest NHS trust in the South West.

Emma Steele
Emma qualified from University of Northumbria in 1994 with BScHons/Registered Nurse in Nursing Studies. Since then she has worked in a variety of clinical settings and roles. Here at ROH as the Deputy Chief Nurse her responsibilities are both within operational and corporate nursing with a focus on Nursing Workforce and Education, Patient Safety and Experience and supporting our Senior Nurses to lead their teams through continuous improvement to provide excellent care for patients.

Gareth Stephens
Gareth is a physiotherapist by background with 20 years clinical experience, and current Head of Research, Audit and Development at the Royal Orthopaedic Hospital. He is a PhD student at Edge Hill University; an Honorary Research Fellow at University of Birmingham and has successfully contributed to approximately £2 million of current research grant funding.

Ruth Pearce

Susanna Tucker
Susanna qualified as a physiotherapist from University of Birmingham in 2017 with a first-class honours degree. Susanna is currently completing her PhD exploring post-operative rehabilitation following spinal fusion for adolescent idiopathic scoliosis (AIS) alongside her clinical work as a senior physiotherapist at the Royal Orthopaedic Hospital Birmingham. Susanna has a varied MSK clinical caseload but with a special interest in scoliosis and spinal pain. As part of her academic studies Susanna has published work exploring post-operative return to sports, exercise, and physical activity as well as presented at several national conferences. Most recently she completed an international e-Delphi study, the first international consensus on post-operative rehabilitation following spinal fusion for AIS. Alongside her clinical work and academic studies Susanna has also worked as a teaching fellow at University of Birmingham and is currently supervising masters dissertation students.

Beulah Dilipen

Lucie Gosling
Lucie works as a Consultant Physiotherapist specialising in Young Adult Hip Pain, and also oversees the peripheral Musculoskeletal Service at The Royal Orthopaedic Hospital, Birmingham. She is a co-founder of and co-chairs the UK Hip Physio Network @UKHipNetwork which links Physiotherapists and researchers at the Young Adult Hip Centres around the UK, providing education, collaborative projects and research dissemination. Lucie completed an MSc in Advancing Clinical practice in 2014 and Masters to Doctorate bridging programme 2018. She is an MACP tutor and lectures at The University of Birmingham.

Dr Louise Mew
Louise is a research nurse at Milton Keynes University Hospital (MKUH) and leads the T&O, ICU, Covid19 & Influenza research portfolios. She completed her PhD in 2024 and was awarded an NIHR pre application support grant beginning in December 2024 to further develop her current research proposals in the speciality of orthopaedics. Louise is about to start a new role as Orthopaedic ANP at MKUH.

We are delighted to invite speakers to submit abstracts for presentations at our upcoming Orthopaedic Nursing and Allied Health Professionals (AHP) Conference taking place on 25 June 2025. This conference provides a unique platform for orthopaedic nurses and AHPs to inspire, inform, and engage with a multidisciplinary team passionate about research and patient safety.
Speaker abstract submission guidelines
Abstract Focus:
Your abstract should align with the conference theme, Advancing Care and Patient Safety Through Research, Innovation and Excellence and address one or more of the following areas:
- Groundbreaking orthopaedic and musculoskeletal research in nursing or AHP practice.
- Innovations in patient safety and quality improvement.
- Integrating evidence-based practices to enhance care delivery.
- Leadership and collaboration in driving safety and research excellence.
- Policy and future trends in research and patient safety.
Abstract requirements:
- Title: A concise and engaging title (max 15 words).
- Summary: A clear overview of the proposed topic (250–300 words).
- Learning Objectives: 2–3 takeaways that attendees will gain from the presentation.
- Relevance: Explain how your topic addresses the conference theme and audience interests.
- Bio: A brief professional biography (150 words), including relevant experience and expertise
