D-Day 80th Anniversary
Today we are commemorating the 80th anniversary of the Normandy landings on 6 June 1944; also known as D-Day.
We remember the service and sacrifice of all those involved, we say thank you and recognise their courage.
The ROH Knit and Natter group decorated the Trust, which formed a colourful backdrop to celebrations.
The Bluebird Belles vintage singers performed 1940s tunes for colleagues and patients, and fish and chips were on the menu!
ROC collaborated with local Bournville Village Primary school, as Year 4 students have crafted themed bunting to adorn ROH halls, promoting remembrance.
For young patients in the Children and Young People's Outpatient Department, ROC have put together an engaging activity sheet, including D-day history, a themed quiz and an opportunity to express their thoughts through drawing.
Fish and chips were never rationed during the war so it’s fitting that they should be served in Cafe Royale to mark the anniversary too!
We hosted a lunch for our Armed forces community (colleagues who are Veterans, Reservists, or those who are part of a military family) where they feasted on fish and chips and shared stories.
As part of D-day 80, Lamp Lights of Peace are being lit in tribute to those that gave so much for our freedom.
The light in the flame represents the ‘light of peace’ that emerged from the darkness of war.
