Royal Orthopaedic Hospital’s Prof Lee Jeys recognised with two President appointments

Orthopaedic oncology and trauma surgeon, Prof Lee Jeys, has been appointed President of both the British Orthopaedic Oncology Society (BOOS) and the Spine and Pelvic Society.

Prof Jeys comments: “I’m incredibly honoured to lead BOOS and the Spine and Pelvic Society, representing both organisations in the UK and around the world. This is an opportunity to continue to drive change in these critical specialties, and I’m particularly interested in developing metastatic bone networks in the UK as exist already for revision and joint replacements. To be entrusted with these positions by colleagues for whom I have enormous respect is both a privilege and a responsibility.”

BOOS’ mission is to promote excellence in the field of orthopaedic oncology through education, research, collaboration and advocating for the highest standards of patient care and support. The society was set up in 1989 with founding members Prof Rob Grimer and Prof Simon Carter from The Royal Orthopaedic Hospital and focuses on bone cancers, soft tissue tumours and metastatic bone disease.

The Spine and Pelvic Society is a highly specialised society focusing on management of sarcomas and soft tissue tumours in the spine and pelvis and improving outcomes for patients. Prof Jeys adds: “While rare, pelvic bone and spine sarcomas present significant diagnostic and therapeutic challenges. Recent research suggests advancements in technique and technology are bringing about improved outcomes for patients and I’m looking forward to leading the society in sharing learning through further collaboration and learning in this specialised field.”

Prof Lee Jeys is an internationally recognised Orthopaedic Oncology and Complex Arthroplasty surgeon at The Royal Orthopaedic Hospital.
