Hot weather advice for patients and visitors
We are currently experiencing a period of hot weather. We are taking steps across the Trust to keep our patients, visitors and staff safe and comfortable, and we encourage everyone visiting our hospitals to take extra care during the warmer conditions.
Visiting patients
- If you are attending an appointment or visiting a loved one, please remember to bring water with you and stay hydrated during your journey and while at the hospital.
- Our regular visiting times and advice is available here.
Staying safe in hot weather
Hot weather can affect anyone, but older people, young children, pregnant women and those living with long-term health conditions may be particularly vulnerable. To help stay safe:
- Drink plenty of water and other non-alcoholic fluids throughout the day.
- Avoid spending long periods in direct sunlight, particularly during the hottest part of the day.
- Wear light, loose-fitting clothing where possible.
- Use sunscreen and other sun protection if spending time outdoors.
- If you begin to feel unwell, dizzy or overheated, seek assistance from a member of staff.
Support for patients
Our teams are taking additional measures to support patients during the hot weather, including:
- Encouraging regular hydration.
- Offering water where appropriate.
- Keeping clinical and public areas as cool as possible.
- Closely monitoring patients who may be at greater risk of heat-related illness.
