Wellbeing and Inclusion Webinar – bringing your authentic self to work – Facilitated by ROH

ROH Chief Executive, Jo Williams, and Chief People Officer, Sharon Malhi will be facilitating a webinar Monday 20th November with Inclusive Companies on Bringing Your Authentic Self to Work. 

Our vision is for the Royal Orthopaedic Hospital to be a ‘wellbeing hospital’. At the ROH we believe that if our team is thriving, they will deliver the best care to our patients. The webinar will outline our approach to creating and nurturing a connected culture of belonging where colleagues are able to bring their authentic selves to work and visitors experience an inclusive environment. The ROH is ranked 7th by ‘Inclusive Companies Top 50 UK Employers (2022)’ – the most inclusive NHS employer in the listing.

The webinar will run 11-12am on Monday 20th November. 

This session will consist of a 20 minute presenter and 40 minute Q&A, allowing participants a chance to delve into the details of ROH’s initiatives and for Jo and Sharon to provide their perspectives.

 

Facilitators: 

Jo Williams, Chief Executive at the Royal Orthopaedic Hospital

Jo was appointed as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) at the Royal Orthopaedic Hospital (ROH) in May 2019. She joined the Trust in an interim role as Chief Operating Officer (COO) in June 2017 on secondment from University Hospitals Birmingham NHSFT, where she was Deputy Chief Operating Officer for 3 years.

She has worked in a variety of senior management roles in several acute trusts’ including (UHSM) Wythenshawe Hospital and Chesterfield Royal Hospital delivering operational performance, leading service transformation and patient care improvement projects. As well as 14 years in NHS operational management, she also worked in procurement in the NHS, as a capital buyer for Nuffield Hospitals commissioning The Manor Hospital in Oxford and 9 years as a buyer supplying the manufacturing industry.

Since joining the Royal Orthopaedic Hospital, Jo has led the Trust on a journey of strategic transformation which has resulted in impressive achievements, awards, outstanding staff experience and being ranked ‘the most inclusive NHS organisation’ in the Inclusive Companies top 50 listing. She is passionate about building an inclusive organisational culture where everyone can be themselves and flourish to achieve their full potential.

The ROH has an enviable reputation for providing the very best care to patients and Jo believes that this level of care is only possible when the wellbeing of the people delivering that care is supported. To deliver this vision, she led the creation of the ROH “Wellbeing” Hospital which puts good staff health, wellbeing, and engagement at the heart of the organisation. Jo has also been a champion for speaking about Menopause and taking strides to support staff at the Royal Orthopaedic Hospital experiencing the Menopause, including setting up a range of support networks.

 

Sharon Malhi, Executive Chief People Officer

Sharon Malhi joined the Trust in April 2019 and has worked as a Senior HR Professional for over 15 years. Sharon is an Alumni of the NHS HR Graduate Management Training Scheme and gained her membership of the CIPD in 2008 following successful completion of her Post Graduate Diploma, going on to complete her MA in Human Resources in 2015.

Her experience includes service within the public, private and voluntary sectors where she has led on Organisational Development, Learning and Development, Human Resources and Business Development initiatives and she is also a qualified coach and mentor. She is a Trustee for Victoria Academies Trust and is Joint Senior Responsible Officer for the Leadership and Inclusion workstream across the Birmingham and Solihull Integrated Care System. Sharon was born in Bradford, grew up in Leeds and moved to the West Midlands in 2006.
