New ‘business lounge’ for junior doctors opens

Junior doctors undertaking placements at The Royal Orthopaedic Hospital (ROH) have been given a new dedicated space to work and communicate more effectively and efficiently, thanks to funding from the British Medical Association (BMA).

In 2019, NHS trusts were provided with funding from the BMA to specifically enhance the working environment for junior doctors, following feedback from a national survey. With their funding, the Trust identified, and was able to develop, a specific meeting and working area for the junior doctors who spend their clinical placements at ROH, which they have named the Junior Doctors Business Lounge.

As a teaching hospital, ROH has a fantastic reputation for providing orthopaedic placements for junior doctors, GP trainees and registrars. The Trust receives positive placement experience feedback each year, and has been fortunate to be able to increase its capacity for placements from four, to nine GP trainees in recent years.

The lounge is located centrally to wards and clinical areas to provide doctors with quick access to key departments. This new renovation is in addition to the recent multi-million pound renovation of the Knowledge Hub, the home of research, development, teaching and training teaching at ROH.
