ROH awarded funding for additional electrical vehicle chargers

ROH awarded funding for additional electrical vehicle chargers

The Royal Orthopaedic Hospital (ROH) has been awarded £11,000 to install additional electric vehicle charge points.

This investment comes from the Department for Health and Social Care’s £10 million fund for charging infrastructure projects.120 NHS sites across 42 Trusts in England in total are leveraging the fund to support electrification of the NHS fleet and transition towards low-emission transport.

Two twin electric vehicle charge points will be installed at ROH thanks to the £11,000 funding. A number of electric vehicle charge points are already available at the hospital for staff and patients, accessed via the Gate C car park. Visitors can locate the charging points using the Pod Point Open Charge app which can be downloaded from the Apple app Store or Google Play.

The project is expected to deliver carbon savings of approximately 590 kg of CO2 per month, equivalent to around 7 tonnes of CO2 per year. That’s roughly equivalent to avoiding around 20,000 miles of petrol car travel each year.

Government investment in NHS charging infrastructure has now reached £22 million, following the Department for Transport’s recent announcement of a £4 million funding extension to their ChargePoint Accelerator Scheme. This builds on the £8 million previously provided by the DfT for the installation of electric vehicle charging infrastructure.

The investment will support the NHS to realise annual operational savings of £59 million from reduced fuel and maintenance costs and deliver its Net Zero Travel and Transport Strategy. It will also enable wider social benefits from reduced emissions and improved air quality.
