ROH reaches milestone in robotic knee surgery

We’ve reached a milestone in robotic surgery at the ROH, with Mr Akash Sharma completing over 200 knee surgeries with ROSA.

Mr Sharma said: "I feel very privileged and honoured to work in a trust that supports innovation! ROSA means that I can adjust and accurately position the knee implant specific to each patient, which means outcomes for each patient are better post operation."

Anton Illsley, Senior Product Manager at ROSA manufacturer, Zimmer Biomet said: “Mr Sharma is the first surgeon in the UK to complete this milestone of 200 ROSA cases.

"This is a fantastic milestone that has been achieved and puts ROH as the highest volume ROSA total knee replacement surgery in the UK. This technology has been helping offer patients a more personalised knee replacement restoring them back to a more pain free way of life.”

The ROSA TKR robotic system offers surgeons an interactive platform to perform total knee replacement which uses data collected intraoperatively that offers real time feedback to support the surgeon’s decision-making during surgery. This data along with the use of the robotic arm, provides a more personalised solution for total knee surgery.
