Royal Orthopaedic Hospital Awarded RACE Equality Code Quality Mark

The Royal Orthopaedic Hospital NHS Foundation Trust (ROH) has been awarded the RACE Equality Code Quality Mark following a rigorous independent assessment.

The Quality Mark is a national standard recognising organisations that demonstrate strong leadership, accountability, and measurable action in advancing race equality. ROH was commended for its clear governance framework, commitment to the 12 Musts of the Code, and integration of race equity into its wider Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) strategy.

Sharon Malhi, Chief People Officer at ROH, said:
“We are proud to achieve the RACE Equality Code Quality Mark. This recognition shows our determination to embed equity and inclusion at every level of our organisation. Our focus now is on delivery, making sure the actions we’ve committed to bring real, lasting change for our colleagues, patients and communities.”

The Trust will be subject to a formal progress review in 18 months, and a full reassessment in three years, to ensure momentum is maintained.

Matthew Hartland, CEO, added:
“Achieving the Quality Mark reflects the dedication of our staff and leaders who are working every day to make the Royal Orthopaedic Hospital an even more inclusive and welcoming place for patients, visitors, students and staff.”

The RACE Equality Code was developed by The Governance Forum to help organisations take practical, transparent steps towards race equity, particularly at senior leadership and Board levels.
