Happy Birthday! The Royal Orthopaedic Hospital lights up blue for the NHS’ big day

The Royal Orthopaedic Hospital (ROH) has illuminated one of its most iconic buildings in blue, to celebrate the birthday of the NHS.

The specialist hospital joined landmarks across the UK, such as the Blackpool Tower and the Royal Albert Hall, in turning its Trust Headquarters building blue to mark the 72nd anniversary of the creation of the NHS. The Grade II-listed building is the former home of George Cadbury, whose family founded the famous chocolate company. Thank you to Andrew Gilbert from ALG for kindly offering their services in making this happen.

Thank you to all who have donated and given gifts in kind during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Since April, ROH has received approximately £36,760 worth of gifts supporting staff members through the pandemic. This has been from a mixture of online appeals and asks, as well as community support. Gifts were distributed across the Trust.

The Trust has also been lucky enough to receive over £55,000 worth of donations over the last few months, all of which have been received by NHS Charities Together as well as Alleyn’s School. Thanks to all the generous donations received, ROH has been able to fund:

  • iPads to support patients with both entertainment within the hospital and video calling loved ones.
  • Wellbeing care packs for staff members unable to work from home which included meal vouchers, wellbeing information and goodies to brighten their day.
  • Patients suffering with increased anxiety, memory loss and dementia are now being given calming sensory equipment to help them to feel more supported.

Last but by no means least, ROH would like to take this opportunity to say another heartfelt thank you to all of our staff, volunteers and fundraisers who make the Trust what it is. Clinicians, admin, domestic, ancillary, facilities staff and others – ROH is able to provide world-leading orthopaedic care because of its workforce.
