The Spinal Team at The Royal Orthopaedic Hospital NHS Foundation Trust (ROH) are celebrating after a mammoth contribution to a major UK orthopaedic event.
The BritSpine conference and exhibition is a multi-disciplinary scientific meeting held across three days which brings together experts in spinal conditions, research and treatment from across the world to expand knowledge and promote networking.
The event, which was held virtually 10 – 12 March 2021, offered a unique opportunity for everyone to attend, learn and interact with each other and sponsors/exhibitors from the comfort of their own home.
The programme for the day covered a wide range of topics related to spinal care and research, with keynotes, debates, updates and paper sessions from both UK and International Faculty. The event also provided a unique opportunity to meet with peers in the spinal community.
BritSpine 2021 was the 11th annual conference
The nine presentations and two posters contributed by the ROH team covered the breath of spinal surgery, including cervical spine, scoliosis, tumours, infection and the measurement of outcome.
The posters created by the team were titled ‘The variability of torso shape in those without spinal deformity and those with AIS or Scheuermann’s kyphosis - a seven year longitudinal study’ and ‘Implications of blood conservation strategies in posterior correction of adolescent idiopathic scoliosis.’ The following presentations were delivered by the team:
- Index radiographic measurements in the prediction of progression in infantile idiopathic scoliosis; a comparative analysis and description of a novel predictive model
- Posterior stabilisation without formal debridement for the treatment of non-tuberculous pyogenic spinal infection in frail and debilitated population: A systematic review and meta-analysis
- Vertebral body tethering in Adolescent Idiopathic Scoliosis. A prospective look at early intra-operative, radiological and patient reported outcomes of a single surgeon series.
- Best Practice Tariffs: the key to improving data entry in the British Spine Registry
- Is there an argument for implant-related cost reduction in ACDF? A retrospective comparative review of complication profile between PEEK-cages and Zero-P cage screw constructs
- Can MRI be used as a safe and expedient option for calculating Spinal Instability Neoplastic Score (SINS) for patients with metastatic spinal cord compression?
- The long-term results of surgery for AIS. A longitudinal study using SRS-22 outcome scores from the British Spine Registry
- A 3D cluster analysis classification of adolescent idiopathic scoliosis using spine and torso parameters.
